The chemical formula of holmiumoxide is called Ho2O3. A rare earth element, Holmium Trioxide is sometimes called Holmium Oxide. It has the chemical formula Ho2O3. Holmium, or holmium oxide, is a part of the erbium oxide minerals. The natural state of holmiumoxide is mixed with the trivalent oxides and lanthanide elements. It requires special methods for separation. The glass made with holmium oxide is also possible. Traditionally, glasses and solutions that contain holmiumoxid have sharp peak visible absorption and were used to calibrate spectrometers.
What are the special qualities of holmium-oxide?
Holmiumoxide is one colorant used to create cubic zirconia glass. It gives the glass its yellow or red colour. Sharp optical absorption levels in glass with holmium oxygen and holmium Oxide solutions (mostly in perchloric) are seen in the spectral band of 200-900nm.
The special color of colored glass is made with holmium oxide. It is possible to make special colored glass from holmiumoxide. They were therefore traditionally used as an optical calibration standard.
You can see the dramatic changes in color that Holmium Oxide makes depending on your lighting. It turns yellow when it’s daytime. It appears almost the exact opposite of the appearance made by erbium alloy under the same light in trichromatic color. This is because of the strong emission band from the phosphor. A bandgap energy of Holmium-Oxide is 5.3 eV. Therefore, the metal should not be dyed. Due to large numbers of lattice imperfections (such oxygen vacancies), the yellow color is associated with internal transformations of Ho3+.
