Similar to many semiconductors aluminum-nitride is a good material for making sintered bodies.
Aluminium nitride melts at temperatures up to 2200°C in an inert atmosphere. This oxide layer is capable of protecting the material up to 1370°C. At higher temperatures, bulk oxidation takes place. Aluminum nitride has a high stability in carbon dioxide and hydrogen atmospheres, up to 980°C.
The Aluminum Nitride cte (coefficients of thermal expansion) of is 4.5*10-6/°C. It’s clearly lower than those of beryllium or alumina.
It slowly dissolves through grain boundary erosion in inorganic and strong acids. The aluminum nitride particles then erode to dissolve the material in alkali. Aluminum nitride can withstand most molten salts, including chloride and cryolite.

Use of AlN Powder Aluminum Nitride:
The inorganic nonmetallic Aln aluminum Nitride is a diamond-like nitride that has high thermal conductivity. It’s a great thermal shock material. This crucible metal is ideal for melting pure iron, aluminum and aluminum alloys. It has a high resistance to molten-metal corrosion. Aluminium nitride can also be used as an electrical insulation with excellent dielectric properties. It also offers good potential for use in the manufacturing of electrical components.

An epitaxially-grown thin-film of crystalline aluminum Nitride (SAW) is used. It’s deposited onto silicon wafers due to AlN’s piezoelectric characteristics. A thin-film bulk Acoustic Resonator (FBAR) is one example of an RF filter that is widely used in mobile phones. MEMS devices that use aluminum nitride between two layers of metal are this type.
AlN can also serve as a material for piezoelectric, micromachined ultrasound transmitters. They emit and receive an ultrasonic signal and can be used to determine in-air distances over up to 1 meter.
