Lithium is a silvery-white, soft, lustrous metal with the lowest melting point and boiling point of any element that is solid at room temperature. It is a member of the alkali group and has the highest electrical conductivity of any metal. Its atomic number is 3 and it has an atomic weight of 6.94. Lithium is also a highly reactive element and it can react with almost all other elements except hydrogen to form compounds.

lithium iodide trihydrate, or LiI, is the compound of lithium and iodine. It is a white to yellowish hygroscopic crystal that becomes yellow upon exposure to air, and dissolves readily in water, ethanol and acetone. It has a melting point of 446 °C and a boiling point of 1171 °C. It is used in organic synthesis and for manufacturing pharmaceuticals, as well as in electochemics (batteries and electrolytes) and redox reactions. It is also used as a phosphor for neutron detection.
