A white, water soluble granular product, KMnO4 and KPMS are the generic name for the potassium peroxymonosulfate compound. This is a triple salt of potassium monopersulfate, potassium bisulfate and potassium sulfate with the molecular formula 2KHSO5KHSO4K2SO4. It is an effective and powerful non-chlorinated oxidizer that is used in many applications such as textile dyeing, wool shrink proofing treatment, paper production, water treatment and precious metal extraction.

It dissolves rapidly at normal pool temperatures without premixing and works day or night. It does not produce chloramines or chlorine odors and is safe for vinyl liners. It is an ideal shock for pools because it allows chlorine in the pool to work to sanitize and clarify the water rather than simply to clarify the water which can be less effective in keeping pools clear. It is a more expensive option than chlorine-based shock products but does not contain bleach and is a much better choice for sensitive skin and eyes.
